Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada

Curriculum Writing Project

Introduction

A partnership between: The Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada + The Ontario Art Education Association + The Ontario Ministry of Education

In the video above, Pardeep Singh Nagra, the Executive Director of the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada talks about his background, the rich history of Sikhs in Canada, their contributions to contemporary art and culture today, and the importance of having it included in our curriculum.

These lessons were created by Ontario Visual and Media Arts Educators from Public, Catholic and Private Schools for Ontario Educators by the Ontario Art Education Association with the support of the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Education. Each lesson is designed to support two grades. The series of equity focused lessons from Grades 1 through 12  support Visual/Media Arts expectations and include authentic integration of  Social Studies, English, and Media Literacy curricula.

As you view the introductory video for each lesson and browse through the collection you will learn more about the richness of Canadian Sikh culture, and the many artistic contributions.

The Ontario Art Education Association is grateful to Pardeep Singh for his support throughout the duration of this project.
